On Tuesday afternoon, a man was walking south on Mississippi Boulevard in Memphis, Tennessee, when Lewis pulled up in a black Nissan Sentra, the Memphis Police Department wrote in an affidavit, citing a witness. Lewis and the man then had a brief conversation, which the man described as her “yelling at him about an incident that happened prior.”
“Lewis drove her vehicle into” the victim, the witness stated, before the defendant allegedly “turned around and attempted to run over him again.” Police said she drove into another vehicle.
The court document added: “Lewis had her 5 juvenile children in her vehicle when she ran over” the victim.
At about 4:35 p.m., officers with the Memphis Police Department arrived at the scene, which was in front of Soulsville Kitchen & Market on East McLemore Avenue in Memphis. The man was there, and he said “he had been hit by a vehicle and Jasmine Lewis, his child’s mother, was responsible.”
The defendant was also there, and though she reportedly “admitted to hitting” the man with her vehicle, she said “he hit her in her head with his fist first.” She was arrested and jailed.
Lewis was scheduled to appear in court on Friday for a bond hearing. Police did not mention any injuries to the victim.
