Locked-out ex-boyfriend sneaks inside woman's home using secret key before attacking her with machete and cutting her hair, police say

A 40-year-old man in Ohio is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend with a machete, allegedly attacking the victim after she locked him out of her house and using the blade to cut her hair before slicing her head and hands.

Robert Robbins was taken into custody over the weekend and charged with one count of felonious assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Sunday morning attack in Columbus, court records show.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police responded shortly before 8 a.m. to a home in the 600 block of S. 22nd Street regarding a reported domestic violence incident, local CBS affiliate WBNS reported, citing court records.

Upon arriving, first responders found the victim inside the home with a large cut on her head. She reportedly told police that Robbins, whom she identified as her ex-boyfriend, had cut her with a machete.

Medics transported the victim to Ohio Health Grant Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

At the hospital, the victim told investigators that Robbins had returned to the house the previous evening after being gone for several days. The two argued outside before she went back in the house.

Robbins reportedly remained outside for hours, repeatedly knocking on the door and asking to be let in, the records state. At some point that morning, the woman said she believed that Robbins had left, but soon learned that she was mistaken.

Robbins allegedly used a key to enter the victim’s home — a key he had previously told the victim he had lost. The victim said that once Robbins got inside, he was very upset that she had refused to let him in. He then allegedly approached her with a machete that had been concealed behind his back and attacked her, the station reported.

Using the machete, Robbins allegedly climbed atop the victim and began cutting off her hair as she struggled to get free. During the struggle, the victim also suffered lacerations to her head and hands, police said.

Robbins appeared in court for his arraignment Thursday, and a judge set his bond at $50,000. Should he be released, Robbins is prohibited from contacting the victim, from consuming drugs or alcohol, and from possessing a firearm.
