Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, is voluntarily recalling Starfish Seafood Trio – Cold Smoked Salmon, Halibut, and Trout, 8 oz (227 g) packages, because the product has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled product was distributed in New York, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes was identified by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. As a result, Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. initiated a voluntary recall of the affected product. The company is cooperating with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets and the FDA regarding the recall.

Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. is a wholesale distributor and did not manufacture the recalled product. The company has notified its affected customers and requested that they immediately discontinue the sale and distribution of the recalled product, identify any remaining inventory, and notify their customers as appropriate.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled Starfish Seafood Trio are urged not to consume the product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Because the product carries a December 2027 expiration date, it may still be in refrigerators.
