Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the workplace, offering employers new ways to streamline hiring, manage employees and make employment-related decisions. But as these tools become more common, they are also creating new legal and practical considerations for employers.
Shipman partner Dan Schwartz recently joined the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Podcast for a timely discussion, “AI Tools and Labor Law: Legal Guardrails and Looming Minefields.”
During the episode, Dan and fellow guest Nina Pirrotti explore how employers and job seekers are already using AI and what organizations should consider as they incorporate these tools into their workplaces. The conversation addresses AI’s use in areas such as resume screening, hiring and performance management, as well as potential discrimination and liability risks and the growing patchwork of state laws regulating AI in employment.
As AI tools continue to evolve, the discussion highlights an important challenge for employers: how to take advantage of the efficiencies and opportunities AI can offer while maintaining appropriate human oversight and navigating an increasingly complex legal landscape.
