A passenger aboard the Norwegian Getaway died after he fell from a balcony on the ship late Sunday night, August 23, as reported by CruiseFever.

The Norwegian Getaway was on the final night of its three-night cruise from Miami to The Bahamas when the incident occurred. A passenger reported an emergency announcement was made over the ship’s PA system between 11:00 p.m. and midnight on Sunday.

A passenger shared a photo of the incident which appears to show crew members around the man, who was covered by a tarp.

Detectives from Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau are investigating the incident and have called it an “unclassified death investigation,” according to the Miami Herald.

Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement, “On the evening of August 23, a guest went over their balcony, falling on a lower deck. While our crew acted immediately to provide life sustaining measures, the guest did not survive. Our thoughts are with the guest’s family during this very difficult time.”

No information has been released about the man’s identity or the circumstances leading to the fall.

Earlier in April a 24-year-old woman died after falling from her balcony on the Carnival Firenze.
