Former Stars and Stripes publisher says critical coverage was ‘underlying cause’ of staff firings

Former Stars and Stripes publisher Max D. Lederer Jr. said the Pentagon used accusations of insubordination to justify firing three of the newspaper’s staffers when the real reason, he believes, was reporting that angered military leaders.
