A man killed his girlfriend during an argument and then tried to defend his action by saying he “barely touched the trigger” when police showed up, an Indiana jury found.
Reginald Brooks, 55, was charged with murder in the death of 50-year-old Sajdah Abdur-Rabb, Allen Superior Court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.
He was found guilty this week, regional CBS affiliate WANE reported.

On Jan. 29, 2025, Brooks was reportedly drinking and threatened to kill Abdur-Rabb and her son. She was a mother of nine children, with the youngest being 11 years old.
The following day, the victim was at a mobile home off Dunkelberg Road in Fort Wayne. The couple was arguing when things turned violent.
Brooks apparently reached for a gun, and he said he and Abdur-Rabb scrambled to get control of it. The weapon fired, striking the victim.
Authorities responded to the home and found her suffering from a gunshot wound. She was brought to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
When police detained Brooks, he reportedly said he “barely touched the trigger” before the gun fired. He was then booked in jail.
A GoFundMe — that is no longer active — set up for Abdur-Rabb in the wake of the shooting said she was also a grandmother to 10 children. Her family said they were “in complete shock.”
“Never would we have thought this would be our reality,” the fundraiser added, per local ABC and NBC affiliate WPTA. “Domestic violence has shattered our world.”
Brooks is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 30. He faces 85 years in prison.
