Woman woke up to son beating her with 25-pound plate before he forced her on a drive and stabbed her with butter knife: Police

A woman in Maine said she woke up in the early morning to her son beating her with a 25-pound weight before forcing her on a drive, according to authorities.

Nathan Lagasse, 27, has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping, and obstructing justice, according to jail records reviewed by Law&Crime. He was booked in the Penobscot County Jail on Friday.

On Thursday at about 5:30 a.m., a woman in Old Town, Maine, said she woke up to her son — Lagasse — hitting her with a 25-pound barbell plate, regional ABC affiliate WMTW reported.

The man allegedly also used a butter knife to scratch her head and stab her, as well as used pliers as a weapon, police said.

Lagasse reportedly forced his mother on a drive that took about two hours and then left his mother, taking her phone, wallet, and keys. The woman managed to use her laptop to contact a friend, who then called 911, authorities say.

Law enforcement proceeded to search for Lagasse, scouring nearby woods with a helicopter, drones, and more. Officers with the Orono Police Department later arrested him several miles south in Orono, Maine.

The victim was brought to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Lagasse appeared in court on Friday, where his attorney said the defendant accused his mother of being “psychotic,” adding that he used the pliers in self-defense, per the local outlet.

His bail was set at $50,000, he was ordered to have a mental health evaluation taken, and his next court date was set for Dec. 8.

Old Town is locate in central Maine about 140 miles northeast of Portland.
